“What a nice surprise”
Reviewed 18 September 2011

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. ?Nicely decorated bedrooms, large comfy bed, decent hairdryer, friendly attentive staff, fantastic food, and well stocked bar.?The food deserves a paragraph to itself. Expected average bar food, but it was consistently of a high standard. Wide ranging menu with something to suit everyone. Unusually vegetarians were imaginatively catered for as well as meat and fish lovers. Breakfast was very good. Full English, cooked fresh with high quality ingredients. As other have said it has a limited patchy internet/phone connection, but I believe it's something that is being worked on. Everything isn't perfect, but you sense that the owners and staff are working hard to provide something that is difficult to find, a quality, welcoming friendly place to stay, with an excellent kitchen. Stayed September 2011, travelled as a couple

We stayed here for one night in June as we were going to a wedding reception at Parklands. The staff were so helpful and friendly from the moment we arrived. The room was lovely - spotlessly clean and very tastefully decorated. Only slight downside was they only served sandwiches between 3-6pm and we were hoping to be able to have a meal - but the sandwiches were very good!

Breakfast was freshly cooked to order in the morning and nothing was too much trouble. Great value for money and a wonderful experience - would definitely go back and would highly recommend it for people attending weddings at Parklands as it is only around a 5-10 minute car journey away.

We stumbled on the Cricketers at Rickling Green while searching for accommodation not too far north of London. It proved to be worth the search. Our room was fine: clean, good bed, OK shower etc. All you need for one night. The restaurant/bar was pretty good. While the "Heston style" chips we had were not a success (cooked twice instead of thrice I suspect), my grilled plaice was as good a whole fish as I have had, smoked sprats made a lovely starter and the Raffles mess (Eton mess with mangos) was great. Looks like they have a good fish supplier. The staff in the bar were excellent, especially the young man in charge.

Breakfast was less impressive. Mediocre coffee from the bar coffee machine, make your own toast of thin sliced bread in a very slow toaster. Adequate, but below the high standard one finds elsewhere these days. Despite that, recommended.

Good service and friendly restaurant/bar staff. The meal was of a very good standard and certainly well above ''pub fare'' We stopped in the junior suite which had the biggest bed I'd ever seen. Probably the entire village cricket team could have slept in it. However the bathroom was disappointing with a tiny bath and no shower. Nevertheless that small gripe apart this restaurant/pub/hotel certainly had a cosy feel and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would we go back yes we would - I think to watch a cricket match from the outside patio area would be a thoroughly good way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

We stayed here on mothers day and had a wonderful time! The rooms were gorgeous and really enjoyed our Mothers Day lunch. The bunch of daffs were a lovely touch. The new owners obviously really care about what they are doing and it shows. We will be back!!!

We stayed at the cricketers arms in Rickling Green. What a lovely place. Nice relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble for them. good wine and the food was excellent, tasty and well presented. We stayed in the superior room which was very comfortable and the bed was so soft and cosy. When we arrived we were pretty stressed, by the time we left the next morning, it felt like we'd been away for a couple of days rather than just overnight. I would definitely recommend this for their food, comfort and atmosphere. Good luck to the new owners and thank you to all the staff, Charlie1, Charlie2, Leanne, Janice and chef!. You're definitely on our list of places to stay, just to get away from it all.

Great Hotel, good quality and services and great food, but in the middle of nowhere...difficult to find the place if you don't know the area.

I was over joyed to find this hotel - comfortable, clean and relaxing for a very reasonable price. The food was fantastic too, and the whole atmosphere was one of complete acceptance, almost like being at home, but with waitress service. I had my disabled Mother with me, and this posed no problem at all, and her needs were met with dignity and poise, and we were sorry that we could not stay longer. This hotel will become a must for us the next time we embark on such a long journey - Northumberland to Hampshire. Please try this place for yourself, you will not be disappointed! Great staff, great place and great price!
